Members of IIM Kharagpur Chapter celebrated the Foundation Day of Indian Institute of Metals in a candid way. An event was organized in ‘Prof. S. C. Sircar Seminar room’ of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur on 24th February, 2016, at 4:30 p.m. Dr. Amitava Mitra, Chief Scientist, Business Development & Monitoring Division, CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur was present as the Chief Guest during this occasion. Dr. Mitra formally inaugurated the event.
Prof. S.B. Singh, Chairman, IIM Kharagpur Chapter have delivered the welcome address and informed about the present and future activities of IIM Kharagpur Chapter. Prof. G.G. Roy, Head of the Department, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT Kharagpur have formally announced that the Department is going to organize an ‘International Conference on Advances in Materials and Materials processing’ (ICAMMP-2016) during 5-7th November, 2016. Prof. K.K. Ray, former Chairman, IIM Kharagpur Chapter, shared the broader perspective of IIM behind the development of Metallurgical sector of the Nation by bringing the students, academicians, researchers and industrialists together under the same forum.
Dr. Amitava Mitra finally presented a highly illuminating and inspiring lecture on the topic ‘Application of amorphous materials as electrical steel and sensors for non destructive evaluation of materials’. Dr. Mitra shared his vast research experience on amorphous materials, non-destructive testing and the application of sensors in metallurgical application. Around sixty (60) members of IIM KGP Chapters, including student members and life members, attended the event.
